Characteristic and Types of Recount Text

Recount text is very similiar to narrative text. Recount explores the series of events which happened to participant/s.

Characteristic of recount text:
1. Orientation
Present the background information on the who, when, and where of the event.
2. Events/Sequence of events
The events of the recount are presented in chronological order.
3. Re-orientation/Conclusion
The event starts to end the writer may provide an opinion of what has happen.

Types of recount text:
Journal, diary, police report, incident report, letter, etc.
The events are the main element in composing the text. How ever it just focuses on the events themselves. It does not include the conflict inside. The events will be told in chronological order basic on time and place.

The use of past tense
- When an activity or situation began and ended at a particular time in the past in other words, when an activity or situation is completed in the past.
- To refer to past habits.
- Indicators of time: last week, last year, yesterday, ago.

The use of past continuous tensetense
- To talk about a specific moment in the past.
- When an activity still in progress and happened in the past when another activity happened.
